The Edwards observatory has been outfitted, and ready for planetary studies. Today in the Jot ‘Em Down store we find grandpap talking to Abner about people who go over Niagra Falls in a barrel. Is this some kind of honeymooners ritual? Those barrels can be dangerous, why not go over the falls in a rubber ball, and bounce to safety?
After a long night of watching the planets, Lum and Professor Sloane are sleeping in late. Grandpap doesn’t see the sense in studying Mars, when he read all about a feller in the newspapers who was from there. Buck Rogers.
The gents figure it can’t be too hard to build their own rocket, and go to Mars themselves. Grandpap tells about people he knows, and the crazy flying machines they’ve made.
When Lum enters, he shares a little of what he and Professor Sloane were studying up on last night. He sure doesn’t think that Abner is going to be successful at making his Mars rocket.
Will Lum change his tune if he were to learn that Professor Sloane wanted to also build a rocket ship?
