A meeting of the Water Department staff is called. Bessie, Charlie, and old Whinie Flynn. Charlie is full of his typical complaints, and crusty language, dad bust it! With the wedding coming up, Gildy wants to make sure the staff covers all the duties of the office in his absence.
Leila visits the office, and isn’t enthused at hearing about the proposed household budget. Instead, she lets Gildy know what she thinks of the choice of best man, Fibber McGee. Will her powers of suggestion persuade him to change his mind, and have Judge Hooker stand up for him?
At home, Gildy and Leroy have a man to man talk. Though Leroy won’t be invited on the honeymoon, he gets to take on the role as man round the house to protect his sister Marjorie, and Birdie the maid.
Gildy shows off his preparations for his trip to the lake, but Marjorie thinks the camping and fishing gear will make for an unromantic honeymoon. Later,
Gildy is back to trying to explain his budget to his bride, but she has other ideas. Even Judge Hooker is prone to lose his cool when explaining financial matters to the fickle Leila. Maybe a trip to Peavey’s, and an ice cream soda, will the treat somehow convince Leila about a budget?
