There’s no opening to the show, and the drama gets started right off. When coming home in the evening, word comes that a telegram is waiting for Elliot and Cathy. Curiosity is the name of the day as they anticipate, and wonder what news the telegram might hold. Elliot is ready to turn in and get some rest, but Cathy can’t stand it, and spends a sleepless night. If mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy, and she bugs Elliot enough to keep him alert and wondering over the news along with her.
Is it good news? Bad news? Telegrams were once fairly common, but even in their hey day, they weren’t particularly cheap, and people didn’t send one as freely as tweeting on twitter, or zapping an email. Emotions run from the nerveracking to the comical as the clock ticks slowly forward. It seems that morning will never arrive. How will it all turn out? The thrill is in the ride, and not necessarily in the destination, so listen in and enjoy the suspense of humanity and it’s roller coaster ride through life.
