Still recovering from a few bruises in the recent incident in the observatory, Professor Sloane stays home from school. Lum, being president of the school board takes over, but on his lunch break he tries to convince Abner to take over for the day as teacher.
Abner isn’t buying it, and the truth of the rowdy students emerges. Is the former teacher, Miss Fredericks to blame? In teaching the kids, Lum gets the answers right, but why do all the kids keep ansering them wrong. And all with the same wrong answer? It has to be all that faulty knowledge the former teacher put into their heads.
More details of the rebellious kids are told. Spelling things different, using different grammar, and more things that are backwards from what Lum is teaching them. Won’t anybody bail him out? Should he just close the school for the day?
