Mr Dixon is a loud jokester who is staying at King Moses hotel. Has he been wearing his welcome thin with Saylor? Secrets emerge between Hal Dixon and his traveling companion, Frannie. Will Slate Shannon be getting set up for murder? The cops let Slate go, but only because they’ve learned who her real husband is, and he just escaped from a Cuban prison.
It’s not enough for Slate. He knows he didn’t do it, but he doesn’t want to take chances on the law coming after him. Taylor goes with him to track down leads on the street. Seedy dives, shady characters, Saylor wonders how he came to know these kind of connections. Shannon finds the escaped felon, but it could be more dangerous than he planned.
Back at the hotel Saylor and King Moses find an important clue, a letter delivered to the dead Frannie Lane. The felon, Carper, tells Slate his story of bank robbery. it ends with gun shots, but from where? For that matter, where will danger show itself next? Slate needs to act fast to nab the killer, and rescue Saylor.
