Features Roddy McDowell. The story of a boy and his horse. A dad is worried that his son lives with his head in the clouds and needs to be more responsible. A new shipment of a hundred horses comes to the ranch, and the boy is determined to claim one for his own. Mom talks sense to the overly strict dad, and he promises the boy his horse, hoping to bond with his son.
The dad wants to sell Flicka as part of a business deal, but the boy insists on keeping him. The experiences that dad and son share teaches both about discipline, responsibility, and giving second chances. But what can be done with a horse that has fallen into an icy river? Dad leaves the boy to do the responsible thing, but can he do it? When the boy is found, and very sick, how will the dad deal with the horse? Are those gunshots in the distance, or thunder?
