A phone call with a mysterious man from Kansas City was cut short by a gun shot. Today, Lum and Abner shift their worries to seeing if they can tell if the baby is from a foreign country. Will he recognize phrases written in other languages? Which one will he speak?
The gents speculate if the mean sister who left the baby in their care had something to do with the whispering man being shot. With all the intrigue, are Lum and Abner the only friends of king Charlie… er… the baby? All the while, the baby coos happily on the floor. Will he begin to speak, or let the gents know what he wants? As the baby plays, will he respond to any of the foreign phrases that Lum and Abner try to read to him?
Abner is amazed, and confused that he said something in a different language. Lum tries his hand at Spanish, while Abner phones Lizabeth with his false conclusion over his venture into the French language.
