Mr Evans enters to look around the store. Abner’s talk about the baby confuses Evans. All he wants is to make sure the prices on the merchandise meets federal standards. Lum discusses the program that regulates prices so nothing is outside maximums. Store owners are also required to register prices with the government.
The program is to try and limit run away inflation, and be sure everybody has a fair shot at getting the goods they need. Abner gets confused at what a ceiling price is, and displaying them in a prominent location. Some prices are flexible, depending on the market, and location. The OPA will also help merchants meet the requirements.
