Where did the diamond come from that Lum found in the store? He and Abner try to figure it out. This could take some detective work. Abner gets confused over the value of the gem, but Lum thinks he knows who it may belong to. Bulldog Edwards learns that Lady Briton has left town, and he’ll need to keep the valuable diamond safe until she returns.
To keep it safe, Lum thinks Mose Moots can help. Instead, he tells about a sign painter he had been watching. Lum hides in the feed room with Abner while Mose hides the diamond where even they won’t find it.
Opie enters for some oyster crackers. Meanwhile, a phone call reveals to Abner that Lady Briton may still be in town. Now, Mose is missing, and Lum needs to find that diamond.
As Lum agonizes over the well hidden diamond, Opie goes on about people he knows in Mt Ida, and the weird things they do.
The search is on to find Mose. Zaza Pitts stops Lum to talk about an emergency of her own. Lady Briton is on the way, and Lum plans how he’ll save the day for her. When the ring isn’t in the place where Mose said it was, Lum has problems again. Lum treats Lady Briton to soup and salad in Luke Spears lunchroom. Will Abner have a solution to finding that missing diamond ring?
Note: I know that her name is Lady Brill-ton, but overtime I type it, my computer insists it knows better, and keeps spell checking it to Briton. See, it just did it again… technology.
