Back home after their trip to New York, Gracie has a meeting of the Uplifters Society in full swing. In the reading of the minutes, we learn of the trouble the club has in finding a meeting place. The Happy Postman is glad to see that Gracie has returned, and breaks out in laughter… sort of. The gossip among the girls is that there may have been something between Tootsie and Bill while they were in New York. Bill sets them straight, and delivers the sponsor message. George expects a little peace and quiet in his love nest, but finds it’s filled with the gals, and noisy. I’ve Heard That Song Before.
George caves in when faced with Gracie’s logic. Not able to beat them, George joins them in the meeting. Gracie awards herself the first ever Gracie Allen Memorial Award for her musical accomplishment. Trying to rescue his friend, Bill Goodwin suggest that George play sick, and get the ladies to leave. Jimmy Cash sings, I Don’t Believe in Rumors.
Dr Lewis, played by Mel Blanc, is an absent minded, and easily confused man. Will he help George diagnose an illness to get rid of the Uplifters? Bill has to squeeze in another commercial, as he tries to tell Gracie about George’s dire condition. Herman the duck is on hand… er… wing? to help, but he won’t play the game. George plays up the moaning and groaning, but will it play on the sympathy of the ladies the way he intends?
