Leaving Abner to himself in the bus depot, he listens to the announcements of arrivals and departures. The announcements done similar to those in Jack Benny’s train station episodes. After fending off a crook, Abner finds himself with a baby. Lum returns and finds a note. What do the two gents know about taking care of babies? In trying to pass responsibility for the baby to someone else Lum is accused of being a deadbeat dad.
Under the watchful eye of a woman in the depot, Abner tries to be friendly, until Lum convinces him otherwise. Ben Withers is in the depot and tells about the people he had been visiting. What will he think about Lum’s new baby? Can Ben help do the right thing with the baby?
A missed connection means a longer layover, more bus announcements, and the need to still take care of the baby.
What about that watchful old biddy? Sister Simpson seems to also be traveling. Is she going to enlist in the Army? Lum is upset with the help Ben has offered so far, but will a lawyer friend of Ben’s do better? The member of the Zincafoose clan tries to help with finding someone to adopt the boy. The ruckus that gets raised gets the attention of the real mom, and lets Lum and Abner off the hook.
