American Radio Theater presents The Lost Gildersleeve
This modern audio drama starts with Gildersleeve in his office, but Bessie is having trouble remembering the combination to the safe. Mr Kemp is the city clerk, and shares the positive outlook Gildy has for his career as a public servant. He’s being welcomed into the fraternal organization for certain pillars of Summerfield community.
Back home, Leroy needs help with his history homework. Will Gildy and Marjorie convince Leroy of the importance of his paper on George Washington? Are you kidding? What will the kids think if their uncle climbing the political ladder, possibly right up to mayor?
On the street, Gildy runs into the judge to share his aspirations of becoming mayor. Leila passes by, but will she and Gildy patch up their engagement after their falling out over Valentines day? In Peavey’s drugstore, an ice cream sundae does its work to pave the way to a resolution. If the interruptions will permit, Gildersleeve offers a proposal once again to the fickle widow, Mrs Ransom.
With plans to take the kids roller skating, Gildy first recruits the engineering talents of Ben to fix the wash tub that Birdie needs. Which means that Ben does it, while Gildy watches, and wants to take credit as he puts the finishing touch to it. The formal event at the Keystone Club awaits, and Gildersleeve is joined by Leila. Gildy is urged to apply, and pay the stiff membership fee to the political club. He recognizes the offer for what it was, political corruption. Will Leila stick by his side when he refuses the offer?
