After a hard day at work, and a cold walk home, Gildy is greeted by the crashing steps of Leroy racing down the stairs. Leroy shows off the gas mask that was dropped off to the house for civil defense.
The mask scares Birdie, but does it work to filter the air? Marjorie telles about the excitement at work, and a fire. Is Gildy right to believe it’s the work of sabotage?
Its off to talk to the judge, but at every step, and person he meets, Gildy builds the case of sabotage to the danger point. Judge Hooker tries to calm him down, but has he went too far in his misunderstanding with how well chief Bates is doing his job? Not to mention causing undue fear with everyone he meets?
At home, the mystery and intrigue still has Gildy on edge, seeing a saboteur in every shadow. Will it be the excuse he needs to have Leila spend the night? Will it be the excuse Leroy needs to get out of taking a bath? A call from Charley at the gol darn water works needs a gol darn snifter valve. How can he keep the gol darn water goingwithout that valve! In his one man crusade to save Summerfield from sabotage, Gildy has driven 30 miles for his part, and the next morning deals with his dippy new secretary, Bessie. Will he learn his lesson? Will the emotions of fear and panic be brought to light, and overcome? Very likely so, but the audio is cut short, so the scene in the office is all we know about it.
If somebody knows where to find a complete version of this show, let me know. I’m pretty sure there’s one out there, but I seem to not have it.
