Liz and Ben are the married couple, who do the best they can in raising their two kids Pete and Emily. Bills roll in, and to help Ben pay them, Liz decides to get a job. It’s just for the Christmas season at the department store, and ought to be a nice change of pace for the stay at home mom.
How does the family do without her? The kids are old enough to take some responsibility. The real question involves how they are doing with their
Christmas shopping lists. Are their decisions to buy gifts for extended family based on obligation, and being self centered?
On the job, Liz faces the hectic mobs, getting a feel for the sales staff and their drive to make commissions, the customers who bicker, take advantage, or abuse the system. Dealing with it in stride, Liz makes a friend, and is glad to finally have survived the season to be off her feet. Still the real meaning of Christmas isn’t lost when Ben reads from the gospel of Luke, about the birth of Christ, and a little extra kindness is extended to a friend.
