Finding the workload at the Water Department overwhelming, the great man has spent an all nighter at the office. She may be a classical hardened biddy, but Miss Fitch at least cares that her bosss is being overworked. Gildersleeve takes time to race out for some last moment shopping, but first a trip to Floyd the barber. The talkative barber gets on Gildy’s nerves, but not as much as Judge Hooker. There’s a new rift in their rivalry for the hand of Leila Ransome. The fickle widow won’t take the busy work schedule as an excuse for Gildy’s neglect. He gets a few brownie points when he seees her off to the airport for some holiday travelling.
At the airport she makes the gents promise to get along, and spend Christmas day together.
After battling the crowds in the dpartment store, Gildersleves encounters Doc Pettibone. Is his Christmas cheer on an upswing? Shuld he pop into Peavey’s drugstore to pick up a gift for the judge? He learns a little about Peavey’s taste in Christmas traditions. Will Gildy get a hint at what the judge is getting for him?
Finally at home, Gildy helps out with trimming the tree. Birdie and Leroy get to hear how Gildy didn’t have the complications of electric lights for decorations.The Christmas Eve traditions with the family and Judge Hooker include a gift exchange. Will everybody get what they wished for?
