In the gray, wet dusk just off the coast of Canada, Captain Friday and Skip Turner sit and wait. The government has them on a secret mission for military intelligence. Skip gripes that he hasn’t been in the company of female type women in too long. Somebody in a military uniform suddenly stumbles through the brush. Is it their contact? The man has both a knife in the back, and a mission on his lips as he falls dead, dropping a young woman at their feet. Skip will be getting his wish to rescue a girl, as long as he can keep dodging bullets.
Off the island, and safe at sea, our heros arrive on the mainland. How did Judith Wright get into the kind of mess that she was just rescued from? Fridays instincts scream that there’s no time to stand around. They’ve got to move.
Racing on horseback, Friday plans to sit, and wait for visitors to come looking for them in the tiny town of 300 people. Thumps on the head, a disappearing Miss Wright, and danger is at every turn. Friday and Skip aren’t easy to outsmart. What secrets will they uncover? Why is Judith being put into a coffin while she’s still alive?
Note: Elliot Lewis is Captain Friday in this short story installment in this series.
