Lee Dargen interupts Matt and Chester in the jail, and demands they lock him up. At the Long Branch, Matt shares a word with Kitty before confronting Max Salter. What’s the conflict between him and Lee? Lee needs help with more than his temper, and asks Matt to uphold the peace at his ranch. Has Salter been stealing cattle?
Matt looks into the possibility of tampering with brands, and the selling habits of Salter. So far there’s nothing out of the ordinary in his dealings.
Keeping a sharp eye out, Matt figures out the secret method of mis-branding the cattle. It’s enough to get Lee fighting mad, if he finds out. Will the matter hold up in a court of law though?
Matt helps Lee with a plan to keep the fake branding from happening, and heads back to Dodge. Discovering the evidence of the earlier fake branding, Lee is bent on taking his own justice out on his foreman. Can Matt prevent a shootout… or a lynching?
