Claudia and Nick wait with Pa Barber while they wait for word from Paul about the missing Joan. All they know is the possibility of an accident has ruled out, and there’s no sign of her in any emergency rooms around town. Pa Barber still fears the worst, and that it’s all Paul’s fault for taking responsibility for the rebellious teen. Is this history repeating itself, with the instance of when Claudia was 18, and eloped with her first husband? Paul returns, and Claudia is fully supportive of her older brother, and his progress with overseeing Joan. A report that a car has been found near the beach. Has Joan and Ken run off together?
Back at the ranch, Cliff is resting in a hammock, talking with Jack who is escaping the noise of kids. The baby of the family, Jack deals with his role as a father to 6 daughters, and keeping the bills paid. Dan and Hazel drive up, returning from Redwood City where their son, Pinkyu is working in a lumber camp. What’s the news about Pinky? Is it a matter of what’s said in Redwood City stays in Redwood City? They joke about the nosy nature of their father, Henry Barber in the lives of his grand children. Will Hazel be any more forthcoming about Pinky than Dan was?
Is Cliff regaining a stirring of memorhy in his 11 year span of amnesia?
Cliff probes Hsazel about how her own kids felt about Dan when she decided to marry him. Did they have any resentment, like the feeling that his son, Andrew, is feeling for Roberta? Jack tries to lay on the guilt trip to get Hazel to tell all about their trip to Redwood City. Secrets are safely kept for now.
In town, Joan is found unharmed. As soon as she dresses, they’ll come home… huh? Now Pa Barber’s imagination is running wild about what happened at the beach all night. Joan arrives and has some explaining to do. A silly mistake found them stranded on a cliff ledge with high tide blocking their escape. Will Pa Barber relent in his demand for Claudia to take her daughter home, and be the parent he wants her to be?
