In Jack’s house earlier in the week, the phone company calls about a new line for Rochester. Why does he need a personal phone line so badly? mary enters to tell about a long distance phone call from back home. After a sad wedding story, she and Jack are off to the races. Why is Dennis wearing a sandwich on his head? Jack has to visit the vault to grab some spare change. Ed the security guard is behind the times, left in the dark, butstill funny. Dennis sings, Outside of Heaven.
At the track, Jack is waiting for his race, when he goes to the lunch counter, and Frank Nelson. The tout tries to give advice on the better table in the diner. Don makes an appearance to order his sandwivch, that sounds a lot like a sponsor message.
Back on the track, Jack is going to place his bet on Our Fancy. Will the man in the information booth be helpful? I don’t know. Dennis has his own system, and chooses #12 instead. Spotting the head of the network, Mr Paley, Jack gets him to switch to Our Fancy, rather than the horse he wanted, Aviatrix. Jack is so convincing, everybody changes their bets, even Jack. Who’ll win, Our Fancey, or Aviatrix? Either way, I think Jack’s sure to get the short end of the bet.
