Frustrated at the joke by Dennis, Jack gives him the silent treatment. Mary arrives, and Jack goes outside to see her new car. How could she afford such a thing on her salary? Dennis has more zany news for Mary before he leaves. A phone call to Don Wilson gets the studio phone operators. Mabel and Gertrude talk about seeing Jack out on New years Eve. The Sportsmen perform a number they’re practicing for Jack’s upcoming TV show, Shine Little Glow Worm. The operator joins Jack for a ‘Wait a minute’ moment.
At an auction, the bidding starts on an umbrella stand. Jack thinks it’s not worth the troublle, so he talks under his breath to Mary. They talk about Bob Hope’s appearance on the last episode, when suddenly… Jack walks away with that elephant leg umbrella stand.
