As Matt and Chester walk their rounds, and talk about the weather, another bunch of rowdy cowboys come to town to shoot their guns, and spend their money. Kitty rushes in to report a problem with Red Bastion’s wife. How did the woman get shot? Will Red be taking the law into his own hands to get justice from the rowdy cowboys?
The trail boss claims to be willing to work with Matt, and turn over his cow hand who did the shooting. Can he be trusted? Those ranchers and cowboys tend to stick together. The injured woman is still in critical condition, but is still hanging on.
Matt figures there isn’t much he can do, but word from Kitty warns of a potential bad situation. Bastion is ready to have it out with a cowboy, but will Matt gets there in time to stop any violence? Just then, word arrives that Mrs Bastion has been bitten by a rattlesnake. Smelling something growing more fishy by the moment, Matt cuts through the smoke, and uncovers the real issue at hand.
