After 5 years, Gildersleeve wants to get in touch with his old friend, Charlie. Leroy learns about a few of the friendly pranks the college chums played on each other, and how they helped each other get their starts in business. Still, Leroy would rather not go visiting at Charlie’s apartment building, and meeting the wife and little baby.
Charlie isn’t home, but Gildy seems to have made enough of an impression on the mom to leave little Gertrude in his care while she runs out for an errand. Will he and Leroy remember all the complicated instructions she left for them?
Why is the baby crying? Food? Diaper? Maybe a nice story or a song? Won’t this baby ever fall asleep? Time drags on, and Gildy has to phone home to warn Marjorie of his delay. Will the lady’s be able to come to the rescue? What’s taking mom so long to return?
With Birdie and Marjorie on hand, Gildy learns some details that make him think his friend is destitute, and sets out to take care of the family bills.
