Riley sneaks a Thanksgiving turkey into the house. Junior catches him, and learns the secret of how the bird was bought. Peg knows something is going on, and thinks the surprise is a new dress for her. After a humorous moment of confusion, the real surprise is revealed.
Riley gets upset when Junior admits that made other plans for the Thanksgiving feast at a friends. Peg adds grief when she drops the bomb that Babs also made plans. To get a little sympathy, Riley tells a sob story about Thanksgiving. Hey, the details may not be true, but its the thought that counts. After Riley storms out, Peg tells the true story in flashback mode.
On their first Thanksgiving, Riley brings home all the fixings, except for a turkey. What will Peg’s poppa think with Thanksgiving with a salami in place of a turkey? I think they ought to take away sharp objectgs from dear old dad. Riley storms out, and Peg sends her dad out to find him. Dad has a heart to heart talk, trying to get Riley to break it off with Peg.
Riley almost falls for it, and when he finds Peg gone, he’s distraught. As he usually has a way of doing, Digger ODell shows up for a visit, and more of that graveyard humor as he offers some advice.
Not fully feeling better, Chester Riley runs home to mom. Is Chester too big a failure for Peg? Will he ever win her back? Will he ever eat turkey again? I think we all can safely guess the answers to those questions. The conclusion tells all.
