Another adventure of George Valentine. Write to him for full details.
Today George and Brooksie read a letter from a desperate woman. George heads out to the broken down little town, and the broken down apartment building to meet with his potential client. She isn’t there, but he gets a lead on where she went. As George heads back to the train station in hopes of catching the mystery woman, the scene cuts to the police Chief talking with Brooksie. He reveals that it was a hoax that he played on George.
The real plan is to throw a surprise birthday party for George. It gets better as the police officer tells about more pranks that he’s going to play on Valentine. Brooksie is reluctant to mislead George, but takes a bet and takes part in the scheme. The police officer has an elaborate plan, and has a few mystery writers lay out a prank to test George’s detective skils.
Does George stand a chance against all the brain power? Will the mystery writers get anything done between the bickering among themselves about the drama they are to stage? The surprise is put onto the cops when one of the writers actually is murdered. George isn’t fooled, and has seen through the set up with the writers, but it takes a double take to rrrealize the body is for real. Now there’s a real mystery to solve.
Was this a spur of the moment crime of passion, or was it already planned? George and Brooksie snoop around, but in classic melodramatic style, George gets thumped on the head. The plot twists keep twisting as George narows down the list of suspects.
To help figure things out, George reads through the books of the various authors to hunt for clues, and methods to the killer’s thinking. Once he has if figured out, all the characters are gathered together to clear the innocent, and point the finger to the guilty.
