A richly dressed woman comes to the mounties to search for her missing emerald. A thief in San Fransisco has led the chase to the Yukon, and all the dangers it holds. What makes the woman think the emerald is in Dawson? She outlines all her proof and details of her pursuit thus far. Nobody in the region seems to fit Louie Milano’s description, but soon word comes in with a clue to his whereabouts.
The thief turns up dead, but there’s no sign of an emerald. The story takes a turn into a more traditional detective tale as logic is applied to the clues and preston has a mystery on his hands.

The woman has taken off to take the law into her own hands, and a mysterious killer is on the loose on her trail. Besides the usual dangers in the Yukon, Preston needs to act fast to stop the string of gangster style murders, and if he can also find that emerald, so much the better. At least he has one thing going for him to give him the edge, his great dog, King. Get ready for a twist ending when all the players in the story aren’t all who they claim to be.
