At a skid row hotel, a man known as the Duke seems to have come into money, and claims that he’ll be returning to his former lifestyle. Before he can, a couple of characters come calling, the Duke is kidnapped, and Davis the hotel owner gets a thump on the head. Davis takes the story to the cops. What’s this all about? Who is the Duke, and what is his background? There isn’t much to go on, but there’s enough.
When Casey and his reporter friend, Annie Wilson, become part of the investigation, things move a little quicker. Of course a trip to Ethylbert’s clears the air and ideas are tossed around to arrive as some solid conclusions. With an idea for a trap in mind, Casey rushes back to the crime scene to lend a hand to the cops.
Who are the characters who killed the Duke, and what did they want? Casey’s plan is too irresistable to keep away from, and the thugs are lured into it. Before the secrets are revealed, there’s still excitement, and danger to deal with as foreign powers clash with Casey and the cops.
