Ricky Curti is the son of a miner who tells Hop Along about the trouble brewing back at Buckboard Flats. He doesn’t accompany Hoopy, but rides on into town to carry out a mission for his dad. Nearing the mine and Curtis ranch, the sound of a coyote is heard, but Hoppy suspects it’s actually he work of a human coyote.
Our heros arrive just in time to help the ranch hands fight the fire that blazes. The mine is closed and abandoned, but Hoppy and California have reason to investigate it. What’ll thet find there?? Who is trying to shoot at them and prevent them from leaving the mine alive? Hoppy begins to see an ugly pattern of mystery emerge as he and California ride back to the ranch.
Hoppy plays his cards close to his vest as he questions Ellen and the others to try to spot his bad guy. Who can he trust? Who is telling lies? As he learns more bout the failed Curtis mine, RRicky rides back, and he’s been hurt.
Steve Holt is a man who is determined to buy out the Curtis min, and Hoppy goes to confront the man in the salloon. Though Hop Along is sure of who is behind the dirty plans, the sheriff needs more evidence to haul tthe mine jumpers in. Everything now depends on Hoppy’s plan to spring a trap at the mine. Get ready for some gun blazing, fist fighting action. The gang of gold rustlers are caught, but has their leader gotten away?
