We find Matt out of Dodge City to deal with a man who has the entire town in his pocket, with crooked means of course. Though Matt doesn’t have anything on the man to convict him with, he promises to send a man out who can keep the law.
On the trail back to Dodge, the man’s girlfriend rides out to Matt seeking protection. Her story reveals how she was fooled into being with the man with promises of marriage, but he already had a wife in some other distant town.
Matt’s intentions are above the board, although the woman hints that she might like to justify their pursuers jealous conclusions that Matt stole her away from him for his own amorous purposes. In suspenseful moments, Matt survives an ambush, and back in Dodge we learn who he decided to hire as that peacekeeper, some young hot named Bill Hickcock.
