Reenacted from a previous script. Texans ride to Dodge City with a problem for Matt. They’re herd is still 5 days out of town, and the cowboys are being plagued by Jayhawkers who demand payment to pass through Kansas.
Matt rides out and agrees to work as a cowboy as he keeps an eye on the trail for the bandits. We learn a little history, that Jayhawkers were drifters who dealt with the post war hard times by preying on cattlemen as they drove their herds to market.
When a drifter wants to join the crew, he is suspected as a bandit infiltrator. Matt can’t prevent a murder from happening, but he does manage to ride down the gang to bring the only kind of justice they’ll respond to, and the Texans respect for the law isn’t let down.
