Dennis opens with a song, Hand Holding Music.
After seeing a movie, Mildred wants Dennis to put the moves on and be romantic with her. She thinks that Dennis just needs to be more forceful, and corageous. The trouble is that although in the movies, the tough star is always in contact with rough types, Dennis just works in his mild mannered job at Jacoby’s store. Nothing exciting ever happens there.
Meanwhile at Jacoby’s, a thug enters the store demanding that Jacoby pay protection money to keep bad things from happening. Threats are made, the crook leaves, and Jacoby contacts the cops.
Intermission time. Dennis sings, Highland Fling.
Later when Dennis and Mildred are alone at the store, the cop comes in to check on things, and Dennis mistakes him for the crook. Thinking fast, Dennis invites the cop to the Andersen house to be set up to get arrested.
Mix ups continue as Dennis heads back to the store where he mistakes the thug for a friend of Jacoby, and a detective. How can Dennis save the day, and unravel the damage that he has done bby locking up the cop, and letting the crook roam free? Don’t worry, despite his best efforts, Dennis manages tosave the day anyhow.
Dennis closes the show with a song, Three Wishes. Gale Gordon is the police detective, and Sidney Sheldon is the gangster.
