Dennis opens with a song, Look Up.
Dennis announces to Mr Anderson that he is going to take a new job in Seattle Washington. An old high school friend has a place for him working in an apple orchard. What about Mildred? What will she have to say? Dennis tries to break it off with Mildred.
When Mrs Anderson has her own troubles, it may be the solution Dennis is looking for. Mildred encourages him to apply with the mayor as city manager. Frank Nelson is the mayor, but will he be willing to hire Dennis?
Musical interlude. Dennis sings, Old Monterey.
Dennis is hired, but it helps that Frank Nelson mistakenly thinks Dennis is buddies with the president, Harry S Truman. Getting right to business, Dennis turns to getting letters dictated. Mr Anderson is impressed, but will Mrs Anderson? Will her bossy nature stand up to the new found authority of Dennis?
The fun comes to a screaching halt when Dennis friend shows up. Can you believe it? It’s Schlepperman, or at least it’s Schlepperman’s voice as Harry from the apple orchard in Washington. Dennis job is over. Now he’s back to his usual status with everybody.
