A would be hit man with an honest streak brings his story to the cops. Though he turned down his $5000 job to kill a man, he knows that his mark is doomed to die whether he does it or not. Johnny is a bar tender who lays out all the details to Joe and Frank.
Who is Wilhelm Irlick, and why is he wanted dead? Why was Johnny approached? It’s up to Joe Friday to get those questions answered, and find the killer. Wilhelm turns out to be a mild mannered man who grows roses, and seems to have aquiet life.
A twist enters the story when Johnny the bar tender is threatened for not going through with playing hit man. A clue takes the cops to a talkative, and nosey landlady where the son in law of Wilhelm lives. Red flags shoot up, and Joe has enough to haul in the in law for some serious questioning.
