The owner of a jewelry store reports to Joe Friday about theft of his expensive merchandise. Could it be an inside job? His account of the robbery leads Joe on the track of carnival workers. Through voiceover, Joe tells about a few similar crimes, and the profile of who he might suspect. An informant emerges, and claims to know the story behind the operation.
Is it too good to be true? Can Joe trust his man? Why is this informant coming out now to tell on his fellow thieves? Life in the carnival game isn’t all happy.
To protect his informant, Joe covers as many bases as he can to check on the criminal records of the others in the carnival, and are involved in the burglaries. He’ll need to make sure he gets them all, or revenge might be taken against his tattletale.
