Special guest, Bing Crosby and his son Lindsay introduce the show. Bing sings a few bars of a song about the California Gold Rush, then fades into flashback as he tells a tale of the wild gold rush days.
A man has struck it big, and sends for his son Barny, along with his guardian and school teacher to come out to San Fransisco. In the wild and wooly town there is no law, except for the new vigilance committee that has been formed to deal with the criminal element. Miss Taylor dreams of setting up a school, and even a church as the first signs of civilizing the rough settlement.
When tragedy strikes, and the stash of gold is stolen, dad goes to take the law in his own hands, but thanks to action from his son, a serious tragedy is traded for a lesser one, and justice is carried out.
To wrap up, Bing and Lindsay are back with a promising word for the current generation, and the life that awaits in their future.
