Vice President Aaron Burr takes part in the surpreme court trial of Samuel Chase. CBS reporters take you back to this little known trial. Senators vote for the guilt or aquittal of Mr Chase, can they or the Congressmen sway the decision? Reporters examine the finer points of whether a Supreme Court Justice should be impeached based on the decision of politicians, or if the Supreme Court should be involved. If they do, are they overstepping their bounds?
A fear is addressed that the court is claiming more power than the Constitution is designed. As the political climate is examined, the question is presented, under what conditions can a supreme court justice be ejected from office? High crimes and misdemeanors? Or by political decision? Get a lesson on the balance of power in our government structure, and the checks and balances built in. The bickering politicians are left behind as CBS reporters move into the meeting itself and describe the setting. What will be decided? Listen in to the dramatization to learn how it all shakes out.
