Young Americ is faces trouble when the presidential election is in a deadlock. Jefferson has won the popular vote, but Aaron Burr is being supported by the electoral college. If something isn’t decided with this 36th ballot, things might degrade to bloodshed.
CBS reporters examine the political climate surrounding the candidates and the supporters of each. In the courtyard, the militia has been assembled. will their military might be called upon? Is there really danger of an assassination attempt? Interviews of the common people who support Jefferson share their reasons for their support. The fear is that Burr will create a government that will oppress the freedom of the people. Despite laws, the constitution, and government structure, the thing the people want is their freedom to live as they want, without being told what to do.
In other circles, Jefferson’s life as an inventor, atheist, and intellectual is brought up. what do those in the political elite think about the election, and giving the people their popular choice? Divisions run the line of faith, thinking that Jefferson’s atheistic beliefs will be the moral destruction of the nation. Bur’s political stance has everybody in an uproar. hich will it be a democratic government with a threat to freedom of religion and morality?
