Clark and Lois drive to the country when they go after a story. In their search for Mr McGraw, they meet a few interesting and quaint characters, but the locals are beginning to creep Lois out.
McGraw has a story for the newspaper, but there are those who would rather keep it hushed up. Is the mine actually haunted? Just when the whole story seems like a lot of superstition, and hot air, an explosion comes from deep in a mine shaft. There’s more than just miners at stake when Lois comes up missing. This sounds like a job for Superman! Clark argues with McGraw about going into the mine, but once he goes into the darkness, Superman has his chance to spring into action.
Clark has the added trouble of the cave walls being lined with lead. His x-ray vision is made useless. How will he find Lois, and the killers who murdered Billy? Hairraising dangers await as he rescues Lois, and tries to put a stop to that shadowy character who is seen fleeing the mine. At the end, Clark tells Lois all about how he figured the mystery out as they drive back to metropolis.
