Lou is worried over his crazy relatives, and he tells Bud about his uncle Mike being robbed, and having trouble getting groceries. Jokes turn to topics on driving, jobs, and inventions. Viola the secretary enters to add some dimension to the jokes about dating. She talks about her new French bathing suit.
Bud and Lou talk about money, gambling, and sharing with each other. Bud is looking for some rest and relaxation and the guys discuss vacation places.
howell Withers sings, Wipe Those Tears from Your Eyes. Bud and Lou are back to talk about girls, and a leading lady for their next picture. Before the Sam Shovel mystery begins, Lou tells about a few of his relatives who tried their hand at detective work. The mystery play is, Tony’s Home Permanent, the saga of a boy who was forced to stay home after getting into trouble.
Sam gets the mystery going with his monotone, hard boiled one liners and puns. Gunshots ring out, but is someone hurt? Sam and his sidekick Bud race next door to find out. It’s off to the seedy side of town to look for clues, and a meeting with a streetwise dame.
