Blending the wisdom of the East with the science of the West, Charlie Chan cracks another case. After a brutal murder, Charlie is on hand to try to comfort the grieving mother about her fallen boy. Her son was a Shrock, a money changer. In examining the dead boy’s personal documents, Charlie recognizes a forgery. What’s this all about?
Charlie explains to #1 son about a scam that is still going on today. Shortly after a death, a scammer contacts the family to say the deceased owed a large bill, and the grieving family pays the fictitious debt without questioning it. For today’s case, Charlie tracks down the former employer, Mr Gregor and the trail to the criminal gets another step closer.
The listener is privvy to an inside track with the high class, high power scammer. I’m sure such cons are run by people a lot more sleasy, but it probably sits better to think we were outsmarted by a
person of high class and intellect than a slimy bum. After a commercial break, Charlie is back to do his own outsmarting. With the pressure on, the circle of con men get nervous. To answer all the questions, Charlie tells #1 son what tipped him off to solve the case, and what all the clues mean.
