Visiting the emmigrant camp, Matt breaks up a knife fight that’s about to begin. Later back in Dodge, Matt learns more about the land dispute from Chester. It involves the railroad selling land grants that are bogus. A man claiming to be selling as an agent for the railroad is making land deals, or trying to.
It’s going to be up to Matt to soothe the flaring tempers of those who have been cheated. On top of the whole mess, one of the wives of the homesteaders seems to be having an affair of some sort withone of the other players in the story.
