The pilgrims seek religious freedom, but at the moment it seems the Mayflower will never sail. CBS reporters take you to Plymouth Harbor, and explore the situation.
Complications surrounding recieving a charter from King James arises, as well as other red tape in setting sail. A description of the Mayflower, and it’s history is told. Reporters interview a few pilgrims who tell that some are fleeing for religious convictions, and some for other reasons. Problems are compounded by the season for sailing, and then there are the financial burdens and limitations of making the trip.
In interviewing the Pilgrims, they don’t seem to be a unified bunch, and often have gross misconceptions of what awaits them in the new land. With some of the bickering and blustering among the bunch, it’s amazing they ever made the trip, or survived once they arrived.
