A young man and his gal discuss eloping to get married. On the way to pick her up for the big date, he is pulled over, and his borrowed car ties him to gangster activity. The cops are all too eager to haul him to pin the crimes on him. Petty theft explodes into murder charges.
During the trial that ends up with our young man facing the electric chair, Clark Kent has been the reporter for the crime pages in the Daily Planet. He believes the kids story, and does his own investigation that should set the kid free. The real gangster in question is Tony Donelli, and his girlfriend Chickie. A sting operation is put in place that exposes their role in the crimes.
PS: Fans may remember from an early story ark that there was a Donelli’s Protection Racket. In that story, he also had a girlfriend named Chickie, but that was Chip Donelli. I’ll have to listen to that story run again, but I’m pretty sure he wasn’t Tony. It was something like 9 years earlier, so maybe it’s the same guy, but he got out of prison.
