Down in Pine Ridge Abner and Grandpap had conspired to send out pictures of married men to send out to the female clients of the matrimonial bureau. With the secret out, Abner and grandpap talk about the events, and how things have been resolved. Abner is feeling low, and gives himself a good chewing out. Can grandpap stick up for Abner and keep him from doing something crazy to himself?
Lum enters to break up the fight and manages to burst the tension well enough. Though Abner and grandpap’s report of the situation in town was mild, Lum has a few other things to say about how the people in town feel about the incident. Has the whole matrimonial bureau been ruined?
As he tries to stay optimistic, Lum tells how he helped Dick resolve his situation with Birdie Collins. Cedric enters with a telegram. It seems that Lum has done such a great job of taking Bertie’s interest from Dick that she’s coming to town to meet him.
