To document their find, Lum and Abner put their silent film camera to good use to shoot a film of the bones they found, and their attempt at assembling them. In the Jot ‘Em Down store, Abner talks with Cedric and tells how Lum had him put the bones together a couple of times to make sure how they go, and to get a good documentary film of it. Abner tries to tell Cedric what Lum told him about how the bones came to be buried there, and both marvel at what the creature must have looked like when it was alive.
Lum enters with good news, the doc says it isn’t a dinosaur. Lum thinks it may be a new kind of animal that hasn’t ever been discovered before. When Lum mentions the missing link, Abner gets a little confused, but Cedric leaves excitedly to think the curiosity is even more important than first thought. Lum dreams of his fame, and honorary professorship. Abner is just worried that Squire will somehow try to horn in on their action. Lum claims that Squire doesn’t have a leg to stand on, and it’s just the kind of saying to get Abner confused over. Now he’s feeling sorry over Squires loss of his legs.
Fortunately Lum is saved by the telephone bell. The the professor with the definitive word. It’s not a dinosaur, or even an exotic animal. What is it?
