Down in Pine Ridge Lum has been held in jail over breaking the Blue Sky law. He is now out on bond, and Dick talks with Grandpap about the events that got Lum arrested. It was to raise some quick money to help grandpap with his tax bill. Even so it was due to Lum being left holding the bag when Squire bailed out of his scam of a silver mine.
The stockholders are against Lum again, although Dick thinks they’re wrong in feeling that way. Abner enters to report that Lum is no where to be found. Has he skipped out on his bond? Dick thinks positive and trusts that Lum is around somewhere, but is he right? Abner and grandpap are worried that Lum did leave. They are especially upset that they helped pay Lum’s bond, and they’ll be out their money.
Cedric pops in with word that the rolling store still needs some engine work, but ought to be ready for business tomorrow. He also reports that he has gone into the cattle business, just the one cow that he bought from Lum. Lum has apparently sold off everything he had, and after selling things took off for the county seat.
As bad as it appears, Dick still thinks positive and decides to call Evelina, if anybody will know about Lum his girlfriend ought to know what he’s up to. Just then Lum comes up to join his friends. He raised money to pay back all the stockholders to buy them back out of the mine.
