Down in Pine Ridge, Lum hangs out in Dick Huttlestons store after Abner has sold out the Jottem Down store, and dived into the high society scene. They talk about his fast driving habits in his big car, and his latest kick with going to the horse races.
Just then Lizabeth phones to talk to Lum about her concerns for Abner. She’s afraid that Abner’s adventure with wine and song, is now including women. She caught him saying the names of Dixie Belle, and Mary Jane in his sleep. After the phone call, Abner comes in where Dick and Lum are about to give him a lecture.
First Abner needs to give Grandpap a buzz on the telephone. He lays on the latest cool jive talk, and arranges to meet up with the two gals mentioned earlier. Abner slows down enough to get an earful from Lum about Dixie Belle, and Mary Jane. Though Abner is in denial over other women, he reveals that those names belong to a couple of race horses.
Horlicks drama: In the drugstore, the pharmasist tries to sell the store brand, but later the woman writes a letter of complaint, and preaches the praises of the real thing, Horlicks. It’s the only original, and made with the highest quality.
