Down in Pine Ridge, Lum has been desperate since his movie theater burned down. He has just been hired by Abner to work as store clerk.
Today Lum talks to grandpap about his new low position in the store. He tells about some of his other prospects he has through his other civic duties, and complains about being bossed around by Abner.
Sure enough, Abner enters giving orders, and putting Lum to work. As Lum leaves to handle chores, Grandpap and Abner talk about Abner’s harsh behavior. It’s just to teach Lum a lesson over the times that he’s bossed Abner around. Grandpap warns Abner not to push things too far.
In the daily routine of the store, Lum and Abner both struggle with keeping their jobs straight. In the end, Lum takes a phone order, and resorts to his old roll as boss, making abner hop to, and make the delivery.
