Don announces this as being the first show for CBS, and sets the stage for a flashback. Jack, Mary, and Rochester drive to the studio in the Maxwell.
Jack is uptight so Rochester plays the radio. The announcer gives the countdown to how long is left for Jack’s first CBS show. When he hears it Jack gets so upset, but it’s hard to tell if he’s bragging or complaining. Frank Nelson is a traffic cop who pulls Jack over for running a red light. What did you think he was doing, speding?
Even the police radio gives a blurb of Jack’s upcoming show. The cop is nice enough to let Jack go, but it depends on if Rochester can restart the Maxwell.
At the studio, Jack and Mary get a reception by Amos and Andy. They have also just switched to CBS, and are on right after Jack. Jack has a quick talk with Phil as the band is doing some last minute tune ups. They joke about Remley, and the criminal background of the band. Amazingly, the running gag about the bear hunt continues.
Dennis arrives and sings, Look Up. Jack and Mary go to rehearse the script, but keep getting side tracked. Dennis talks with Jack about the move to CBS. Apparently Dennis is dressed oddly, and Jack can’t resist asking about it.
Mr Kitzel shows up to talk with Jack About the move to CBS, and his wild New Years Eve celebration. Jack walks in on the stage engineer doing a mike check. Don is on hand with the Sportsmen and with Jack’s help they sing, A Slow Boat to China. Jack had such a good time, he demands an encore, but the Sportsmen do a verse of adlib.
The Head of the Western Division of CBS, Mr Thornberg, arrives to welcome Jack. As the show starts, it ends.
