Jack has a trip planned to go to Palm Springs, but now he has to pack. He and Rochester try to keep it a secret from Polly since she gets so upset when she has to stay home alone. They resort to spelling out the suspicious words.
Mary phones Jack about the trip. Jack listens to the radio, and a commercial from Frank Nelson that sets Polly off about their vacation destination. The truth about the spelled words comes out.
Dennis stops in to ask if his mom can go to Palm Springs too. He also sings a song in Spanish. Rochester has the luggage packed, so he and Jack head out. At least, if the Maxwell will start. They stop to pick up Mary.
As they drive, the radio is played again. The Sportsmen come on and sing, Alouette. The trip goes well, then Jack stops for gas. The gas station attendant, Mel Blanc, tries to upsell some car parts to Jack. Bob Crosby happens to stop for gas at the same station, and talks about some of his band. To make up for time, Jack takes a shortcut.
