Lum and Abner – Dick Smashes the Eye Glasses. 350403 Horlicks: A recent test (recent in 1935) in a Chicago school proves that kids do better in school when they have a Horlick snack.
Down in Pine Ridge, Lum managed to get the loan money to the circus in time, and the first show was put on.
Meanwhile, Grandpap and Dick Huttleston talk about the circus business. As Dick and Grandpap talk, it becomes clear that the guys will need to give up on the circus since they can’t travel with it to keep up on making the decisions from afar. As Dick and Grandpap watch them approach, they talk about the crazy glasses that Lum and Abner have been wearing, causing their eyesight to be bad, and have constant headaches.
Dick sees through the silliness, and under the guise of examining their glasses, smashes them. Yippee! Good for him.
Horlick drama: A pair of women talk about Lum and Abner, and their sponsor. Just pick some up at your local drugstore. Be sure to keep some on hand to help you sleep.
Trivia alert: Horlicks was invented by William Horlick and his brother in Chicago, Illinois. Their factory in Racine Wisconsin produced the famous malted milk tablets and powder. Once William passed away, his brother sold off business interests in the United States, and focused on his own operation in England.
